ZOHA

Zoha, a residence in Kotakkal, seamlessly blends art, crafts, and architecture, unfolding poetry with every step. As one approaches, the dramatic roof positioning and integration of built and unbuilt spaces initiate a dialogue between nature and architecture. The design, a collection of memories and experiences, articulates spaces through courtyards and corridors, inducing curiosity and a sensual connection. Craftsmanship shines, revealing a high-end collection of artisanal elements that portray the cultural image of a traditional Muslim residence in an ethnic and contemporary manner.
This project exemplifies architects transcending boundaries, acting as facilitators for clients and craftsmen to celebrate their designs organically. Inspired by design thoughts, clients curated elements, and craftsmen responded with on-site innovations. Zoha is a collective, hands-on effort where the designer is invisible, and design is celebrated.
Zoha's narrative unfolds a rich story of generations, travel, material quality, and craftsmanship, particularly in its 17 types of windows. Courtyards, ponds, and corridors seamlessly integrate nature and architecture, creating diverse rain moods. The material palette, carefully selected by clients traveling across the country, features sustainable materials. The furniture, lighting fixtures, and décor elements reflect a genuine intention to recreate the cultural identity of an old Muslim residence. Grounded in context, rooted in culture, and meeting contemporary needs, Zoha offers a nostalgic experience, transferring cultural identity to future generations.
